YOGA TEACHER Mirka Finney
Mirka’s involvement in Yoga started as an expansion of her very early interest in Eastern Philosophies and Alternative Medicine. These interests awakened her desire to learn and explore Yoga and in 1990 she started classes in the Iyengar Yoga Institute at Maida Vale. At that time Mirka studied under well-known and established teachers like Mira and Shyam Mehta (authors of “Yoga; the Iyengar Way” etc), and Sylvia Prescott. A long interest in yoga and a desire to share her knowledge and experience prompted her to embark on a teachers training course with Rosamund Bell at the North-East London Iyengar Yoga Institute. Over the years Mirka’s curiosity of mind led her to expand her knowledge by practicing Iyengar yoga with other teachers. She also explored other forms of yoga (Hatha, Sivananda and Ashtanga) under a variety of teachers including Tim Cummins. Her interest in anatomy, movement, and mind also prompted her to study Pilates and Tai chi for several years.
Before setting up Yoga holiday Paradiso, Mirka taught in North London, then at a Yoga Centre in Bury St. Edmunds and at her private studio in Suffolk.
She regularly travels to attend classes and workshops with Senior Iyengar teachers to deepen her knowledge, practice and her teaching skills. Mirka has taken a Restorative Yoga course with Roger Cole and completed Mindfulness Training (MBCT) with Dr Hagen Rampes. She also attended courses and workshops with Dr. Timothy McCall, Bobby Clennell and Rajiv Chanchani.
Mirka employs a Mindful approach to her yoga teaching. She will encourage you to bring your full awareness to your breath, and physical and emotional sensations as you move through asanas. Mirka also puts emphasis on alignment, precision and selective relaxation in the postures. The practice will improve your flexibility, balance, agility and strength. It will increase the sense of inner peace, relaxation and general wellbeing throughout your body and mind.
Mirka is a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance UK. This accreditation demonstrates excellent standards as set by Yoga Alliance UK.
